Mr. Deeds Goes To Town was released in 1936. It is about a man who inherits a larger fortune but does not like being rich. He tries to give his money to the poor and is accused of being insane. Though this story is full of lies and hypocrites the idea Mr. deeds has of giving to the poor was directly related to those who needed it the most during the Great Depression.
